force quit

How Do I Force Quit an App? (on a Mac)

It happens to the best of us. You’re working away, making great progress, then boom. That silly beach ball of death starts swirling, and you know you’re stuck.

Here is how to shut your over-taxed app down and get started fresh.

Command-Option-Escape: Hold these keys down at the same time. A window with all of your open applications will pop-up and you can close down that one app. It will usually show “not responding” beside it.

⌘  Command Key: usually on the bottom left next to the space bar

⌥  Option Key: usually on the bottom left (also “alt” key)

esc  Escape Key: usually on the top left

Now get back to work! :-)
